Conrad Olson – Compositor

Canadian, UK and Australian citizen, currently working in Vancouver, BC.

I am a compositor with nearly 10 years of feature film and high end TV experience. I enjoy being part of a team that creates high quality work and I love having the responsibility of being the last person to work on a shot before it is finalled.

I also teach compositing and enjoy training other artists, and working with other departments to plan projects and improve pipelines.

Professional Experience

Compositor at Umedia, Vancouver, 2017 – 2018

I was one of the first artists hired at Umedia’s new Vancouver facility. I worked as part of a small team establishing the new VFX office, working closely with supervisors and pipeline.

Projects included The Meg, Skyscraper, The Gifted (TV), Game Over Man and a Telus TV commercial.

Compositing Instructor at Think Tank, North Vancouver
2017 – Present

I teach the compositing class at Think Tank Training Centre one evening a week. This involves teaching in front of a group of 14 students. I am responsible for writing and preparing all materials for the course.

During The Deathly Hallows Part 2, I was in charge of the stereo workflow.

I was the head of the department for three months.

Training Experience

As well as my teaching experience at Think Tank, I have also written and recorded an online Nuke class for Pluralsight and several personal video tutorials. I have also hosted group training sessions at Framestore and UMedia.

I enjoy personal mentoring and have run one-on-one mentor sessions at Think Tank. I also often spend time helping junior artists improve their compositing skills at work.

I have a very good understanding of the principles of photography and regularly shoot with my DSLR.

Complete Compositing Course, Escape Studios, London
2008

A comprehensive, intensive compositing course, covering the full range of compositing skills.

I was trained in Shake, Nuke, Toxik, Boujou, PF Track, and Silhouette.

BSc Multimedia Production – 1st Class, Nottingham Trent University, 2001 – 2004

Modules included Video Production, Audio Production, 3D Animation, Project Management and Multimedia Law.

I received the second highest degree in the year and was the elected student representative.
