The monsters were guys in suits on set but Framestore added the animation to the faces. This meant that there were tracking markers on the faces that had to be removed in every shot. There were also loads of wires that had to be removed in the shots where the monsters were jumping and lifting heavy things.
Where The Wild Things Are was my first project at Framestore and my first ever feature film project. I expected to be doing mainly roto but there was so much paint work I think I only did one roto shot.
