“In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth.”
Blomkamp and Image Engine worked together previously on District 9.
District 9 successfully built up a lot of buzz with a long viral marketing campaign and the internet has been expecting something similar for Elysium. For a long time there was very little about Elysium out there, except for a still image of Matt Damon with a big gun.
But that changed this week when two websites went live.
http://www.welcometoelysium.com/ is a fake marketing website showing off the advantages of living on Elysium, including the houses, healthcare and security. It also profiles some of the political characters who rule Elysium, including Defense Secretary Delacort, who is played by Jodie Foster.
http://www.armadyne.net/ is a corporate website for Armadyne, the company that built Elysium and most things on it, including the droids and the medical machines.
Elysium is due to be released in August, so I’m sure there will be plenty more from this campaign.
